“During my visit to the modest Buenos Aires home of the Oxter family, a lower-middle class family, I discovered, on a wall of the living room, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. It was my first visit to the Museum of the Contemporary.” (João Delgado)
In Kingston, Ontario, we rented the only furnished house we could find. The Sobermans, the owners of the house, had died at the beginning of the previous decade, and their children had put the home up for long-term rental “as-is” -- a kind of “family museum,” with a 1960s decor, just as their parents had left it. We lived in the house for a year, inside the set of another family.
The Soberman's art collection included more than 40 paintings -- mostly reproductions of well-known artworks, and some originals by non-canonical artists. When we returned to Israel, we commissioned Adi Kaplan and Shahar Carmel to reproduce the paintings from the collection, down to their frames. The new collection (the Soberman Collection) will become one of the permanent exhibits of the Museum of the Contemporary, of which we are the curators. In the present exhibition the Soberman Collection is presented in the framework of an installation reproducing the Soberman family living room. The installation also includes a piano, which our daughter will practice on occasionally during the exhibition opening. In the installation there are also some transcripts of the talks we organized in the Soberman Salon, which turned to be during our stay in the space for meetings and talks of the Museum of the Contemporary.

בעיר קינגסטון שבמחוז אונטריו שכרנו את בית המגורים המרוהט היחיד שמצאנו. בני הזוג סוברמן, בעלי הבית, נפטרו בתחילת העשור הקודם, וילדיהם הציעו את הבית לשכירות לטווח ארוך כפי שהשאירו אותו ההורים -- מעין "מוזיאון משפחתי", שעוצב בסוף שנות השישים של המאה ה-20. שם גרנו שנה, בתוך תפאורה של משפחה אחרת.  אוסף האמנות של משפחת סוברמן כלל יותר מ-40 ציורים -- רובם רפרודוקציות של יצירות ידועות, והשאר עבודות מקוריות של אמנים לא קנוניים. כשחזרנו לארץ, הזמנו את עדי קפלן ושחר כרמל לצייר מחדש את ציורי האוסף, על מסגרותיהם. אוסף הציורים החדש ("אוסף סוברמן") יתווסף לאוספי הקבע של המוזיאון של העכשווי, שאנחנו אוצריו. המיצב כולל גם פסנתר, שבתנו תשתמש בו לעתים לתרגול בשעות הפתיחה של התערוכה וכמו כן תמלולים של חלק מהשיחות והארועים שקיימנו בסלון, אשר הפך בעת שהותנו לחלל מפגשים וארועים של המוזיאון של העכשווי.​​​​​​​

في مدينة كينجستون في مقاطعة أونتاريو، استأجرنا المنزول المفروش الوحيد الذي وجدناه. توفي الزوجان سوبيرمان، أصحاب المنزل، في بداية العقد الماضي، وعرض أطفالهم المنزل للإيجار طويل الأجل على الحال الذي تركه والديهم – كـ"متحف أسري" الذي تم تصميمه في أواخر الستينيات. عشنا هناك لمدة عام، كجزء من عائلة أخرى. تضمنت المجموعة الفنية لعائلة سوبيرمان أكثر من 40 لوحة -- معظمها نسخ لأعمال مشهورة، والباقي أعمال أصلية لفنانين غير معروفين. عندما عدنا إلى إسرائيل، قمنا بدعوة عدي كابلان وشاحر كرمل لإعادة رسم لوحات المجموعة، على إطاراتها. ستتم إضافة المجموعة الجديدة من اللوحات ("مجموعة سوبرمان") إلى المجموعات الدائمة للمتحف المعاصر، الذي نقوم بإقامته يتضمن المعرض أيضًا على بيانو ستستخدمه ابنتنًا أحيانًا للتدرب خلال ساعات افتتاح المعرض، بالإضافة إلى نسخ لبعض المحادثات والفعاليات التي أجريناها في غرفة المعيشة، والتي تحولت في الفترة التي قضيناها هناك لمساحة للاجتماعات والفعاليات في المتحف المعاصر.
