Ein Karem Multivocal Tour [Hebrew]

In the multi-vocal tour, three speakers from different backgrounds present the history of the same sites in Ein Karem from three perspectives: Umar al-Ghubari, from the organization Zochrot, describes the sites as they were before 1948; Rachel Cohen-Taragan describes the place as it was during the period of the youth village established there by Rachel Yanait Ben-Zvi in the late 1940s, when Cohen-Taragan herself was an instructor at the boarding school; and Pnina Ein Mor, a resident of Ein Karem, tour guide, and owner of the tourism company Agadat Ein Karem (“The Legend of Ein Karem”), provides a general overview of Ein Karem—past and present—with touches on the site’s Christian history.

Listening to these parallel narratives illustrates the history of the place—its complexity and cultural richness—while tracing its development over the years.

Details

The tour is a walking tour, approximately one kilometer long. It begins at St. John in the Mountains Church (point no. 1 on the map), continues along Ma‘ayan Street, and ends at the viewpoint near the Church of the Visitation (point no. 11 on the map).

Getting there by public transport:
Light rail – get off at the Mount Herzl terminal station.
Buses – from the Jerusalem Central Bus Station, take lines 18, 20, 27, 13, 26, or 150 to the Yad Vashem junction, then transfer to line 28 to the stop near Ma‘ayan Street.

By private car:
It is recommended to park in the main parking lot at the entrance to Ma‘ayan Street (parking is free).
